No. 6 UH men’s volleyball gets sweep in Santa Barbara

Sophomore opposite Rado Parapunov put down 11 kills and No. 6 Hawaii won at UC Santa Barbara for the first time since 2010, sweeping the host Gauchos 25-16, 25-15, 26-24 in a Big West volleyball match tonight in Goleta, Calif.

Junior middle Dalton Solbrig added 10 kills with just one error, and junior hitter Brett Rosenmeier had his second straight errorless match, putting down eight kills for the Rainbow Warriors (16-6, 4-3). Junior hitter Stijn van Tilburg also had eight kills, bringing him within nine kills of becoming the 17th Warrior to reach 1,000.

Van Tilburg had the match-ending ace, one of four aces for Hawaii. The Warriors out-blocked the Gauchos 11.5-5, with sophomore middle Patrick Gasman in on eight and Rosenmeier five.

Corey Chaves had 13 kills for UCSB (11-9, 3-4).

The teams meet again on Saturday at 4 p.m.
