Former two-division world champion B.J. Penn tapped out for the first time in his career when he was submitted by Ryan Hall in a preliminary fight at UFC 232 on Saturday in Inglewood, Calif.
Hall (7-1, 3-0 UFC) forced the Hilo native to tap at 2 minutes, 46 seconds with a heel hook that caused Penn (16-13-2, 12-2-2) to scream in agony.
Penn, 40, is 1-8-1 in mixed martial arts since 2010, and his six-fight losing streak matches the longest in UFC history.
Hall said after the fight that he heard a “pop” in Penn’s knee.
