Pair of 63s have Matt Kuchar leading Sony Open after 2 rounds
Matt Kuchar fired his second 7-under-par 63 in as many days to take the lead at the halfway point of the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Kuchar’s 14 under at Waialae Country Club has him one shot ahead of Andrew Putnam going into the weekend.
Chaz Reavie and Stewart Cink are four shots back at 10 under.
“Just two great days,” Kuchar said. “Love the golf course. It’s a challenging one. If you play well you can make birdies; if you don’t you’re going to make bogeys.”
On Friday he had six of the former (plus an eagle) and one of the latter.
Kuchar birdied his first three holes and four of the first five. Playing the back nine first, he eagled the par-5 No. 18 to go 5 under for the day. He finished the round with a birdie on the par-5 No. 9.
