The top-ranked UH men’s volleyball team, playing before its first sellout crowd in 22 years, saw its record sets-won streak end at 74 but bounced back to remain undefeated with a win tonight over No. 3 UC Santa Barbara at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior hitter Stijn van Tilburg put down a season-high 22 kills to move into No. 8 in all-time kills at Hawaii in a 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19 victory over the Gauchos in a Big West men’s volleyball match.

The Rainbow Warriors (25-0, 8-0 Big West) saw their NCAA-record sets-won streak snapped when they dropped Set 3. Hawaii’s other streak remained in tact, the Warriors’ winning streak the sixth-best all-time in the NCAA record book.

Junior opposite Rado Parapunov added 20 kills for the Warriors. Sophomore libero Gage Worsley had 11 of the team’s 41 digs.

UCSB freshman hitter Ryan Wilcox (Punahou) led the Gauchos with 13 kills.

Tonight was the 87th win for the Hawaii senior class of van Tilburg, Joe Worsley, Dalton Solbrig and Brett Rosenmeier, which ties the program record for a four-year period held by the 1996-99 team.

Hawaii closes out the regular season at No. 2 Long Beach State (23-1, 8-0) on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors return home the following week to host the Big West tournament, April 18-20.

Tonight’s victory guarantees Hawaii a top-two seed and bye into the semifinals on April 19.
