Hawaii baseball team falls at Cal Poly
The Cal Poly baseball team got creative in befuddling Hawaii, 12-4, today at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The Mustangs scored runs on a wild pitch, balk and error to complement 12 hits in maintaining their lead in the Big West. The Mustangs are 21-21 overall and 11-2 in league play. The Rainbow Warriors fell to 18-23 and 7-9.
The Mustangs went down in order in the opening frame, then scored in every inning thereafter. UH took a 4-3 lead when Jack Kennelly hit a two-run single, then scored from second on a wild pitch.
But the Mustangs scored a run to tie it at 4 in the bottom of the fifth, went ahead with a three-run sixth, then pulled away with five runs in their final two innings. The Mustangs scored half their runs with two outs. They also drew seven walks against five UH pitchers.
The teams meet in the middle of this three-game series Saturday, with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
