Police clear scene of fatal crash on Joseph P. Leong Highway

A 28-year-old male driver died at the scene after he collided with another vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Haleiwa.

The incident happened at around 1:15 p.m. at Joseph P. Leong Highway near Emerson Road, Emergency Medical Services reported.

Police closed Joseph P. Leong and Kamehameha highways in Haleiwa as they investigated the scene of the fatal crash involving an overturned vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the second vehicle involved, a 52-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, were taken in stable condition to the hospital after they initially refused treatment and transportation, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman Shayne Enright said.

EMS was called back to the scene just before 2:40 p.m. to pick them up.

Police reopened the highways at around 5:20 p.m. after they cleared the scene.
