H-1 East lanes to close in Kaimuki starting tonight
Eastbound lanes along a stretch of the H-1 Freeway will be closed in Kaimuki for night work starting today.
State transportation officials said two lanes at a time will be closed on H-1 between the Kapiolani Boulevard on-ramp and Waialae Avenue offramp. The work is scheduled nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday to Oct. 17.
During the closure, crews will be restriping the area to provide space for the extension of the storage lane leading to the Waialae offramp. When completed, the storage lane will be an ‘Exit Only’ lane to the Waialae Avenue offramp.
Additional work to install signage for the ‘Exit Only’ lane is scheduled to begin on Oct. 20.
During the day, guardrail and shoulder improvement work will continue on H-1 eastbound between the Kapiolani Interchange and Ainakoa Avenue.
Electronic message boards will be posted to notify motorists of the closures. During night work, the Waialae Avenue offramp from the H-1 eastbound will remain open.
