Man, 77, dies, 2 other people injured in crash near Kaneohe cemetery

A 77-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision in Kaneohe Sunday.

Police said a Mercedes vehicle exited the Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery and attempted to cross the Halekou Road intersection when it was struck by a Toyota truck traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway at about 4:15 p.m.

The 77-year-old Mercedes driver was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he died. Police said a 70-year-old woman passenger was taken in good condition to the hospital.

The Toyota driver, a 46-year-old man, was also taken in good condition to a hospital.

Police said the occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

Speed, drugs or alcohol were not factors, according to police.

This is the eighth traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with five at the same time last year.
