Motorcyclist, 19, in critical condition after H-1 crash

Police said a 19-year-old motorcyclist is now in critical condition after a crash on the H-1 freeway Thursday afternoon.

At about 12:20 p.m. Thursday, the motorcyclist was said to be traveling eastbound on the H-1 when he attempted to overtake a vehicle, lost control, and collided into a metal guardrail.

Police said he was ejected onto the roadway, and was wearing a helmet at the time.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene near the Ewa off-ramp and treated the man for a serious leg injury.

EMS took him to a hospital in serious condition at the time. Police said his condition has since deteriorated, and that he is now in critical condition.

Police said speed appears to be a contributing factor to the collision at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
