Free COVID testing to be available in Wahiawa throughout this month

The Hawaii Department of Health will offer free COVID-19 rapid testing at the Wahiawa Civic Center three times this month, starting this Saturday.

Tests will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon this Saturday and again next Saturday, as well as from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 20 at Wahiawa Civic Center, 910 California Avenue. Free parking is available on-site.

The Wahiawa Public Library was temporarily closed on Wednesday out of an abundance of caution after an employee received a positive COVID test result on Tuesday. The library reopened today after a thorough cleaning.

“Variants and increased social interaction have fueled higher case counts among unvaccinated people the past week,” said Health Director Dr. Elizabeth Char in a news release. “COVID vaccines are our best path out of this pandemic. Testing is also vital, especially for people exhibiting COVID symptoms and unvaccinated individuals who have been exposed to an infected person.”

Test results will be available within 15 minutes, but these are not valid for use in Hawaii’s Safe Travels Program.

Those participating should bring a government photo ID and wear a mask.

Walk-ins will be accepted, but those who want to request an appointment can do so by emailing hawaiifreecovidtest@gmail.com.
