Honolulu police are searching for the unidentified operator of a motor vehicle that was involved in a two-car crash on Farrington Highway in Maili on Saturday.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 23-year-old Waianae woman and 17-year-old Kaneohe girl were traveling with the suspect when the vehicle they were in crossed the highway’s double solid yellow lines at a “high rate of speed” in order to make a left turn into the parking lot of a gas station across from Maili Beach Park.

While attempting to cross the two Waianae-bound lanes of traffic, the suspect’s vehicle was broadsided by another vehicle operated by a 21-year-old Waianae man.

Police said the 21-year-old had three passengers — two 16-year-old girls and a 17-year-old girl — and that two of them were injured in the crash and transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The driver was unhurt.

The Waianae woman and Kaneohe girl in the suspect’s vehicle were also injured in the collision and taken to the hospital, one in critical condition and the other in serious condition. The passenger initially transported in critical condition later improved and was upgraded to serious condition.

According to HPD, the unidentified driver fled on foot and remains a suspect as an investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call HPD’s Traffic Division at 723-3413.
