UH baseball: Rainbows win series with 12-3 victory

Kolten Wong finished 4-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs to lead Hawaii to a 12-3 victory over Wichita State on Saturday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbows (14-14) won their second series of the season and evened their record at .500 heading into Western Athletic Conference play next week.

Pi‘ikea Kitamura hit a two-run double and scored three times and Garrett Champion singled and scored twice for the Rainbows, who pounded out 28 hits in the final two games of the series, including a season-high 15 on Saturday.

Jarrett Arakawa allowed two runs in the first inning, but only one hit over the next five to improve to 2-2 for the season. The freshman left-hander walked two and struck out a career-high eight.

Wichita State coach Gene Stephenson was ejected in the third inning for arguing a safe call at third. Charlie Lowell (4-4) allowed seven runs — six earned — in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Shockers, who dropped to 18-11 overall.

Hawaii begins WAC play on next Friday at home against Sacramento State.
