Police were seeking suspects and leads Tuesday in two cases involving violent break-ins on Oahu within a span of hours earlier this week, one at a Kalihi business and the other at a home in Kailua’s Aikahi neighborhood.

The two cases do not appear to be related, police said. But in both instances, guns were drawn on victims, and in one case a shot was fired.

Three men and an accomplice are being sought for allegedly robbing what appeared to be an illegal card game at a Kalihi business Monday night, a police source said.

Police said the men entered a Puuhale Road home furnishings business at about 9 p.m. Monday armed with a shotgun and a baton.

They ordered the victims to the back of the business, where they were bound and their belongings taken, police said. Among the items taken were cash and jewelry, police sources said.

The robbers, whose identities were at least partially concealed, then fled in a waiting vehicle before responding officers arrived, police said.

No one was injured. The victims were listed as seven men, including a 34-year-old and six men ages 66 to 74; a 33-year-old woman; and a 17-year-old boy.

Under state law, some social gambling is allowed, but only in private homes. None of the nine victims was arrested, however.

Meanwhile, police opened an attempted-murder case and are looking for three men in a break-in and shooting at a Kailua home shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Three men allegedly entered the living room of the Aikahi home at about 12:12 a.m., police said. One of the men pointed a firearm at two people in the house, a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, police said. The two other intruders entered a bedroom, where they confronted a 25-year-old man, police said.

The two men in the house began fighting off the intruders when the one with the weapon shot at the two younger victims but missed, police said. The three intruders fled. The two men in the house sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.

Police opened an investigation into the Kailua break-in for first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary. Detectives said they believe they have a possible motive but declined to give specifics.
