The three left eastbound lanes on the H-1 freeway in Kaimuki will be closed Sunday night through Monday morning for a lane striping modification project, the state Department of Transportation said.

Crews will be working to install black lane stripes to increase contrast between existing white lane striping and the white concrete surface to make lane dividers more visible, the DOT said.

If the results are beneficial, the black lane striping will be installed in both directions between 2nd Avenue and the Waialae Viaduct sometime in the future, the DOT said.

Three lanes from the second pedestrian bridge to the 6th Avenue overpass will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The right lane and all ramps will remain open, the DOT said.
