Man, 84, dies after being struck by car in Waianae
Oahu recorded its first pedestrian fatality of 2016 when an 84-year-old man died today after being struck by a car on Farrington High in Waianae near Tamura Super Market Wednesday afternoon.
The Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Francisco Molina of Waianae.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.
Police said Molina was crossing Farrington Highway in front of Tamura Super Market outside of a crosswalk at 1:50 p.m. when he was hit by a Honda Civic driven by a 30-year-old woman heading toward Makaha.
Molina was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition and died this morning, police said.
Speed and alcohol are factors in the accident, police said.
Molina was Oahu’s first traffic death of the year, compared to five at the same time a year ago.
On Tuesday, a 57-year-old woman was hit by a car while walking on Farrington Highway at 10:49 p.m. near the Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food restaurant on Kaupuni Street, police said. The motorist, a 29-year-old woman, struck the older woman while driving east on Farrington Highway. The driver was not injured. The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

SPEED and ALCOHOL are factors in the accident. At 1:50 PM? ACCIDENT? My condolences to the victim and his family.
Speeding denotes a small ego trying to impress us.
Outside of a crosswalk merely increases chances of being hit by a vehicle.
Outside of the crosswalk doesn’t give the vehicle permission to hit the pedestrian.
Contrary to what we’re taught, better that pedestrians yield to an approaching or turning vehicle. Maybe this isn’t the way it’s supposed to be, but in a collision between the two there’s no question which one will hurt the most. Better to be timid and alive than take the right of way and wake up dead.

Driver expects the pedestrian to wait. Pedestrian expects the driver to wait. Maybe we should have a junk and a poo(paper and scissors ) like we did as a kid.
