The holiday season is prime time for finding low room rates in Las Vegas. Last week, Las Vegas Advisor canvassed every casino in town for the best leads on lodging in December. The rates listed were available either by consulting casino websites, using third-party reservations facilities, or the reservation codes on LasVegasAdvisor.com.

Even if you don’t use the Internet, the list serves as a guide to potential low rates you can secure by phone. Rates are higher during the National Finals Rodeo, which runs through Dec. 16. The deepest discounts will be available Dec. 3-6 and 17-24. All told, 37 casinos have rooms going for under $40 this year. Here’s the line-up (rates change often and are not guaranteed).

>> Under $20: Circus Circus

>> Under $30: Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, Bally’s, Boulder Station, the D, El Cortez, Ellis Island Super 8, Excalibur, Fiesta Rancho, Flamingo, Golden Gate, Harrah’s, Hooters, Luxor, Palace Station, Plaza, Rio, Santa Fe Station, Silver Sevens, Stratosphere and Wild Wild West

>> Under $40: Cannery, Downtown Grand, Eastside Cannery, Fiesta Henderson, Four Queens, Fremont, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock, LINQ, Monte Carlo, Serene, Sunset Station, Texas Station, Tropicana, Tuscany and Westgate

>> High End: Pre-holiday also offers opportunity to stay at more expensive hotels at bargain prices. The following quoted mid-week rates of $89 or less: Treasure Island, Orleans, NY-NY, Palms, Paris, Planet Hollywood, MGM Grand, Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, SLS and Cromwell

Question: Will there be any real ice rinks this year?

Answer: More than ever. Most haven’t opened yet, but rinks with real ice have been announced for the Cosmopolitan, Green Valley Ranch, the Park, Downtown Summerlin, Wet’n’Wild, Ethel M Chocolate Factory, and Lake Las Vegas.
