Rainbow Wahine win in 4 at Long Beach

Senior hitter McKenna Granato put down 11 kills and became the 20th Hawaii volleyball player to reach 1,000 kills for her career as the Rainbow Wahine kept their slim NCAA tournament hopes alive by defeating Long Beach State 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 in tonight’s Big West match in Long Beach, Calif.

Granato added 12 digs for her 10th double-double, giving her 706 career digs for Hawaii (16-7, 12-2). Junior setter-hitter Norene Iosia added 18 assists and 15 digs for her 14th double-double of the season, and senior libero Tita Akiu had 10 digs for her 22nd match in double digits.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the Wahine over the 49ers (13-13, 5-8), doing so in front of 1,899 at the Pyramid.

Senior hitter Tyler Spriggs had a match-high 18 kills — just four after Set 2 — and junior hitter Hailey Harward added 10 for the Beach. Harward added 15 digs for her 10th double-double.

Hawaii sophomore middle Sky Williams came off the bench for seven kills with no errors on 14 swings. The Wahine had eight aces, four by Iosia.
