In a milestone that was 18 years in the making, the Hawaii baseball team scored five runs in the first inning and coasted to defeat Cal Baptist 6-2 at James W. Totman Stadium in Riverside, Calif.

It was the 500th coaching victory for Mike Trapasso.

Trapasso, who is 500-491, joined the Rainbow Warriors in 2002, succeeding Les Murakami, who retired because of medical reasons.

By winning the nonconference game, the ’Bows improved to 19-22. They continue this 13-day road trip with this weekend’s three-game series against Cal Poly.

In the first inning, the ’Bows scored five runs with two outs. Dallas Duarte’s two-run double highlighted an inning in which the ’Bows drew four walks.

The ’Bows amassed seven hits and nine walks but stranded 11 runners.

After the Lancers closed to 6-2 with one out in the eighth, Dylan Thomas came in, and retired all five batters he faced to seal the outcome. Thomas struck out four.
