Maui County to give 6,000 free Thanksgiving meals to those impacted by COVID-19

Maui County is giving away 6,000 free Thanksgiving turkeys, with fixings, to residents impacted by COVID-19, according to Mayor Mike Victorino.

The county is offering the meals in partnership with Maui Economic Opportunity in the form of vouchers mailed out to those in its Hawaii Emergency Laulima Partnership program on Monday and Tuesday.

The turkey giveaway is for recipients of assistance from the HELP program only, and not a distribution for the general public.

“The County of Maui will help make the Thanksgiving holiday a more festive occasion for residents who have been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Victorino in a news release. “Recipients of these turkeys and fixings have already shown their need by qualifying for assistance through the Hawaii Emergency Laulima Partnership (HELP) program.”

The Thanksgiving meal kits will be available for pick-up for those with vouchers at locations in Upcountry and West Maui, South Maui and Central Maui on Nov. 19 and 20. The information on the pick-up location, time and date are on those vouchers.

Questions can be directed to the Maui Office of the Mayor at (808) 270-7855.
