Don’t pack your bags yet Presi … er, Sen. Inouye
In his new and mainly ceremonial status of president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate, Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii will be legally the third in line as president of the United States, behind Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
If history holds true, though, he need not begin thinking about packing for the journey down Pennsylvania Avenue, as no congressional leader ever has directly assumed the U.S. presidency.
We’re third from last in sales of fireworks?
With the Fourth of July approaching, and applying strange criteria, Men’s Health magazine has ranked 100 cities for patriotism – and Honolulu comes in third from last, ahead of only Des Moines, Iowa, and Tucson, Ariz.
The magazine says the ratings were calculated from voter registration percentages, money spent on military veterans per capita, voluntarism in civic activities and sales of fireworks and U.S. flags.
