Fujikawa in fourth

Honolulu’s Tadd Fujikawa shot a second-round 71 to move into a tie for fourth place at the Office Depot Professional Tour’s Manor Classic yesterday in Farmville, Va.

Fujikawa, who is at 2-under 140 after two rounds, trails leader Brian Harman by six shots.

Hawaii Pacific sweeps

Natasha Bell had 12 kills to lead Hawaii Pacific University to a 25-13, 25-23, 25-22 victory over Texas Women’s University last night at St. Andrew’s Priory.

Kyra Pelayo led the way with 18 digs and Bell had 14 as HPU improved to 5-0 this season.

» Julia Becker had 13 kills and Losaline Faka’osi added 10 kills and five digs to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii to a 25-11, 25-16, 25-16 win over Montana State-Billings last night at the Canon Activities Center.

Nobuko Kotoyori had a match-high 18 digs and Lauren Hagemeyer had three of BYUH’s six aces.

Na Wahine Festival on Sunday

Hundreds of women will compete Sunday in the 12th annual Na Wahine Festival by Try Fitness.

Competitors, ages 14 through seniors, will compete in Hawaii’s only all-female triathlon, duathlon, swim and spin and super sprint events.

Swim events will start at Queen’s Surf while bike and run events will finish at Kapiolani.

Pojas takes bowling title

Chad Pojas defeated Jared Hayashi 279-236 in Sunday’s stepladder final of the Hawaii TV Bowling summer season finale at Schofield Bowling Center.

Pojas’s victory in the Ebonite Touring Players Championship earned him $4,803 as well as Bowler of the Year. Hayashi earned $2,401.

BMX state qualifying begins

Qualifying for the Sept. 25 BMX state championship race begins with tomorrow’s double points race at the Sandbox BMX track on Sand Island.

Riders must compete tomorrow in order to be eligible for the final event in two weeks. The track is also hosting Olympic silver medalist Mike Day for a clinic Sept. 25.

Billiards teams return from Vegas

Two teams representing the Oahu APA had respectable finishes in the APA 8-Ball National Team Championships last month in Las Vegas.

The Van Ness Ohana — comprised of Steve, Roger, Steven, Justin and RJ Van Ness — placed 257th out of 728th in their first national appearance.

Also, the doubles team of Timmy Nakamura and Grace Castillo finished 33rd out of 384 in the open division.

» The Oahu APA will hold its Shoot for the Cure, a fundraiser to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research on Oct. 9. Play in the 9-ball single-elimination tournament begins at noon at Hawaiian Brian’s Billiards. Entry fee for APA members is $10.
