This is not just any old library

The City Council will consider Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard’s resolution today that essentially says, Puhleez, President Barack Obama, select Hawaii as the location for your presidential library.

Conjecture already is under way regarding a section of the library being reserved for the killing of Osama bin Laden. Presidential historian Michael Beschloss remarked on PBS that "you can be sure than the Obama Presidential Library, whether it’s on the south side of Chicago or in Honolulu — these are the two contenders — will have a large remembrance of the day that President Obama did this."

Castle Foundation leads by example

The Harold K. L. Castle Foundation gets an A-plus for putting its money on the table, to help the Race to the Top educational reform initiative get over the finish line.

Schools Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi had been worried that budget cuts would derail the Race training component for teachers, so the reason for her happy expression upon receiving Castle’s $10 million gift was clear.

We all hope the invitation by foundation chief Mitch D’Olier to make more donations, large and small, will be answered. We especially hope that Castle’s investment will pay off, because all of Hawaii would benefit.
