All this weighs in Brian Viloria’s favor and, we hope, will get him over the top in tonight’s World Boxing Organization flyweight championship bout at the Blaisdell Arena. The last time the Waipahu-raised Viloria fought in Hawaii, in 2009, he won via unanimous decision. Fans will be cheering for the 112-pound boxer to do it again, this time with the WBO flyweight belt on the line against defending champ Julio Cesar Miranda. How’s about a nice "Hawaiian Punch," Julio?

Efforts to prevent the homeless from camping on public property seem to have overlooked one important location: city bus stops.

Throughout Honolulu, there are individuals who are basically living at these stops, which typically offer a bench that can be slept on with a roof above to provide shelter from the sun or rain.

City Transportation Services Director Wayne Yoshioka said that "it’s not illegal for them to be there" — but is there any doubt that these folks are violating the purpose for which these bus stops are intended?

Meanwhile, people who actually use TheBus often have to stand to the side of these bus stops while waiting for their rides, whether out of compassion, fear or disgust.

It seems like it’s time to close this loophole in the rules against camping on public property.
