H-3 freeway crash kills motorcyclist, 25
A 25-year-old man died Sunday afternoon after he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guard rail on the H-3 freeway.
According to police, the man was in the Kaneohe-bound lanes, east of the Harano Tunnel near the Likelike offramp around 2:18 p.m. when he struck the guard rail and was ejected from the motorcycle.
The rider was wearing a helmet but it came off on impact, according to a Emergency Medical Services report.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Excessive speed was believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to police. It was unclear whether alcohol may also have been a factor.
Police closed all Kaneohe-bound lanes while an investigation was conducted. All lanes were returned to service around 6 p.m.
This is the 22nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 25 at the same point last year.
