Nora appears to be weakening
Tropical Storm Nora appears to be weakening and may not reach hurricane strength as it begins a turn to the northwest, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said.
At 11 p.m., Nora was about 855 miles south-southeast of Hilo moving west at 7 mph. It had sustained winds of 70 mph.
The storm was expected to take a more northerly track on Tuesday, but may veer to the west as it weakens to a post-tropical cyclone.
Remnants of Nora could be blown toward the islands late this week. If that happens, it could bring some rain to Hawaii.
