Three people hurt in crash that closed Ala Wai Boulevard
Three people, including a 3-year-old boy, are recovering after a multi-vehicle crash involving an E Noa trolley bus, a rented Jeep and pedestrians.
The accident at Ala Wai Boulevard near Lewers Street initially closed all lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard Saturday afternoon as paramedics, police and firefighters responded and cleared the scene.
The victims, visiting from Japan and Las Vegas, said the trolley bus hit the toddler, who was crossing the street with his parents in a stroller, and also hit the Jeep, said Jessica Lani Rich, of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii, which is assisting the injured tourists.
Bystanders brought the boy to the sidewalk and also helped a 58-year-old woman and 60-year-old man injured in the Jeep, Rich said.
Paramedics took all three victims to the hospital in serious condition, according to an Emergency Medical Services Report.
The boy and his parents are from Japan and the people in the Jeep are from Las Vegas, Rich said.

She said the visitors from Las Vegas wanted to thank the people who rushed to their aid.
“They (the bystanders) were extremely caring and compassionate,” Rich said.

Lucky you live Waikiki
So the Ala Wai and half of Kuhio are both closed? Must be a real traffic mess.
Typical of police in Honolulu. If an accident occurs in one lane of a five lane freeway, the police close down all five lanes while investigating instead of closing the lane in which the accident occurred and perhaps one adjacent lane and having police officers direct traffic around the site like police do on the mainland.
That’s why it long past time to get rid of our inept chief of police.
That’s me up there on the 10th floor, looking down on all of it.
scary waikiki
Were the pedestrians in a crosswalk or just jaywalking ???
The boy was in a stroller. There is no mention of who was pushing the stroller and what happened to him or her.
Many of those “E Noa trolley bus” drivers think they own the road. Even at Ala Moana where they pick up and drop off passengers, they drive too fast and reckless and endanger people walking to the bus stops and even their own passengers.
Very good point. Anyone who’s spent any amount of time in the areas they service knows that. It could be the corporation’s culture. Hopefully the toddler’s family will sue E Noa for vicarious liability.
One of the news reports Saturday night said the trolley ran the red light.
Nice picture.
I hope you didn’t hurt your back having to stretch from your desk to get a photo of the TV behind you.
