Couple in stolen car eluding police die after crash with another car in Hilo

A man and woman in a stolen car eluding police died in a two-car, head-on collision in Hilo this afternoon.

The crash occurred on the Mohouli Extension near Kukuau Street.

Police said that at about 12:45 a.m., a man reported his car stolen at Kekaulike Street in downtown Hilo and that a friend had been sleeping in the car might have been kidnapped.

A police officer later made a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle at Kaumana Drive and Mohouli Extension, police said.

The officer left his vehicle and was approaching the stolen car when it sped off south.

The officer returned to his vehicle and pursued the vehicle.

Police said the officer lost sight of the vehicle and then encountered two crashed sedans, including the stolen vehicle.

Police said the two were pronounced dead at the scene and the 39-year-old woman in the other vehicle was taken to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the man who was asleep in the vehicle managed to jump out immediately after a male driver entered and took control of the vehicle.

It’s sad that an innocent victim was injured, but the outcome for the car thieves was nothing but good karma.

    • 808warriorfan says:

AMEN … hope the innocent victim recovers … too bad all bad people don’t end up like that …

    • klastri says:

You think the death of two people is “good karma?” Are you confined to a mental hospital?

      • Dawg says:

Death of two pigs who think nothing of others is bad karma for them and a blessing for those of us that are alive. AMEN!

        • klastri says:

When were you first diagnosed a sociopath? Are you under treatment now?

        • TigerEye says:

What people say and do when others aren’t watching says more about them than the way they behave in public. These anonymous boards offer the same perspective. They’re mirrors.

Simple question: would anyone with a moral center worth more than a brown banana write what you wrote?

If you really believe in kharma, you should really consider never using the word again.

        • KonaGolden says:

As stupid as their actions were, I do not wish death upon them. Troubled and stupid, but they are still human. Have some empathy for the family who they left behind. I am glad that the other driver is okay.

        • Morimoto says:

I’ve been in agreement with both Klastri and Tigereye many times in the past but in this case I believe their liberalism has gone overboard. Like others have said, with these two vermin dead they won’t be able to do harm to anyone else. And don’t tell me about rehabilitation, I don’t want to take that chance.

        • saveparadise says:

Asstray and TE, You two have not written anything regarding sympathy for the deceased. All you do is patronize posters for your own daily dose of ego boosting. Is it a low self esteem thing? As for the criminals, awww too bad. Tough noughies baby. My sympathy goes to the innocent survivor for a speedy recovery.

        • klastri says:

Morimoto – If you think that “liberalism” doesn’t celebrate death and conservatism does, then please label me a liberal. Please.

I agree with TigerEye that these comments are a mirror into the mind of the writer. For a lot of you, including you, that is one scary mirror.

And no rehabilitation is possible? A very scary mirror indeed.

        • Morimoto says:

@Klastri, Who’s “celebrating” death? The only reason I’m glad they’re dead is because they won’t be able to endanger an innocent person again. Did you forget the driver of the other car almost died? Who knows what kind of injuries she may have. Mirror into my mind? Of course it is. And I value innocent life over those that intentionally put others lives in danger. As far as rehabilitation, it’s possible, but I personally am not willing to take a chance and have these lowlifes endanger anyone else. What if they lived and then killed someone a year later doing the same thing? Then what? More rehabilitation?

        • d_bullfighter says:

You have to excuse klastri as he has a bad habit of labeling people he disagrees with and he can’t even define and apply the term sociopath correctly.

        • TigerEye says:

          “Who’s “celebrating” death?”

          SueH: “nothing but good karma.”

Dawg: “blessing for those of us that are alive.

          808warriorfan: “AMEN”

          Ryan02: “people are cheering”

Morimoto: “Glad these two vermin are dead.”

          BigErn: “Good riddance.”

All of the above. That’s who.

I don’t see what the morality of spitting on graves based on minimal information from a newspaper (that most of these commentators don’t even respect) has to do with liberals vs. conservatives.

      • kekelaward says:

Evidently, Maui let’s their mental patients travel internationally.

        • klastri says:

Yes, of course. It figures you would chime in on the side of celebrating death.

Not everyone has your personality defects. Some people think that the deaths of two people is not an occasion to cheer about. There are medications available for your disorder.

        • laeboy says:

the Klastri donkey rants again. just pack it up and shut it up donkey.

        • klastri says:

laeboy – No. If you don’t want to read my comments, then try to develop the intellectual discipline to not read them.

I’m not going to lose a minute of sleep.

      • ryan02 says:

I think people are cheering because two dangerous criminals have been removed from society before they were able to kill anyone — or maybe I should say before they were able to kill EVEN MORE people, as their victim is still in critical condition and may yet die. If the criminals weren’t killed, who knows who their next victims would be. My own thought is, “better them than their innocent victims.”

      • Workingrl says:

It is karma alright, but bad karma.

    • Blunt says:

      What were their races?

  2. bugadoj says:

its great police did a good job amen

    • sailfish1 says:

If the police did a “good job”, there wouldn’t have been a crash and the innocent woman wouldn’t be in critical condition. The police, in this case, just did their job.

  3. 808comp says:

Hard to feel sorry for those that stole the car.

  4. Morimoto says:

Glad these two vermin are dead. They got what they DESERVE. Anyone who puts my safety in danger either intentionally or through recklessness deserves to die, period, end of story. I feel bad for the other driver but at least these two roaches are dead so they’ll never be able to endanger anyone else ever again.

    • Blunt says:

How exactly did the thieves start the car? Key left cuz the fran wen sleep in da back?

      • Morimoto says:

Who cares how they started the car, I’m just glad neither of them are still breathing.

        • klastri says:

Let me guess …. Trump supporter?

Because nothing expresses common sense more than wishing death on car thieves.

        • Morimoto says:

Klastri, Trump supporter? Nope, not even close. Not wishing death because they’re car thieves, I’m just glad they’re dead because they almost killed an innocent person. My feelings are the same for that guy who killed the police officer. His history shows he doesn’t care about others on the road. Too bad he didn’t die too. Trust me, I’ve been endangered enough on the roads to have nothing but hatred towards those that endanger me on the roads. They all deserve death or disability, period, end of story.

        • klastri says:

Morimoto – You seem unable to recognize how ill the phrase “I’m just glad they’re dead” is. Do you teach your kids that it’s appropriate to think or talk that way? Wow …

This can be a very sad place.

        • Morimoto says:

Klastri, So what I’m saying is “ill”? Even if it is ill, which I don’t think it is, at least it’s nowhere near as ill as someone having zero regard for others on the road and nearly KILLING an innocent person. Perhaps I should just say “the world’s a better place with these two lowlife parasites dead”. Is that better? Either way they both got what they deserve. I have no tolerance for those that drive recklessly and endanger me.

      • Workingrl says:

Easy to start car if you know how to manipulate ignition wires. How else do you think cars get stolen out of parking lots etc?

Even if keys were left in the car, they is not an excuse to steal it. And what’s wrong with someone getting some rest in a car??

  5. BigErn says:

Good riddance. They absolutely got what they deserved.

  6. Ripoff says:

    good for them

  7. agile says:

I don’t know if I’d use the words ‘deserved it,’ but they are adults and made their choice, so they suffer the consequences. Hard to feel sorry for them–most would have sympathy for the person whose car was stolen.
