Rainbow Wahine beat UC Irvine in Big West opener

Hawaii celebrated a point against UC Irvine during tonight’s match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior middle Emily Maglio put down 13 kills without an error and junior hitter McKenna Granato added 12 kills as Hawaii turned back UC Irvine 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 in the Big West volleyball season opener for both tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sophomore setter Norene Iosia had 39 assists and 11 digs for her fourth consecutive double-double. Senior libero Savanah Kahakai had 24 digs for the Rainbow Wahine (7-5, 1-0).

Junior hitter Haley DeSales led the Anteaters (12-2, 0-1) with 17 kills. Senior libero Luna Tsujimoto had 23 digs.

It was Hawaii’s 20th consecutive home conference victory, marked by Granato reaching the 500-kill career mark. The Wahine ran their record to 37-0 over the Anteaters.
