Hanauma Bay reopened Saturday morning after the state Department of Health canceled a high bacteria advisory issued Thursday.

The department collected water samples at the beach and determined enterococci no longer exceeded the threshold.

“We appreciate the patience of the public while this treasured natural resource was closed,” Department of Parks and Recreation spokesman Nathan “Nate” Serota said in an email.

The city closed the beach Thursday afternoon after the state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch detected enterococci levels at 137 per 100 milliliters in the water. The threshold level is 130 enterococci per 100 milliliters.
