Police investigators today worked at the scene along Ala Wai Boulevard after a body was found in the Ala Wai Canal across from the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

Police on Monday recovered the body of a woman that had been bound from the Ala Wai Canal in Waikiki.

The body was discovered at 7:20 a.m. Police cited unspecified “suspicious circumstances.”

Police Homicide Lt. Dina Thoemmes said it was suspicious due to the position the body was in. She gave a rough estimate of the woman’s age as somewhere between 30 and 50 years old.

She said Monday afternoon that detectives were still out investigating and were trying to determine the woman’s identity.

The investigation prompted the closure of the right lane of Kalakaua Avenue at the bridge to Waikiki until about 1:15 p.m.

The closure occurred at 1777 Kalakaua Ave. turning right onto Ala Wai Boulevard near the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
