Woman pedestrian fatally struck by car on Kalanianaole Highway in Waialae-Kahala

The scene of the fatal pedestrian crash this morning.

A 60-year-old woman died today after she was struck by a car as she walked across Kalanianaole Highway in the Waialae-Kahala area before dawn.

The deadly collision occurred east of Ainakoa Avenue shortly before 5 a.m.

Police said the woman was crossing the highway when a black 2013 Lexus sedan driven by a 76-year-old man struck her.

The pedestrian suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said she was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The Lexus driver did not sustain any injuries.

Officers contraflowed traffic on the westbound lanes of the highway in the area to investigate and reopened all lanes by 7 a.m.

Police said speed, alcohol or drugs were not involved.

This is the 44th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 43 at the same time last year.
