President plans to sign bill awarding Congressional Gold Medal to Japanese-American veterans of WWII

President Barack Obama plans to sign a bill awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to Japanese-American veterans of World War II.

U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka says the president is due to sign the bill in the Oval Office of the White House tomorrow.

The legislation says the United States will remain “forever indebted to the bravery, valor and dedication to country these men faced while fighting a two-fronted battle of discrimination at home and fascism abroad.”

The medal is to be collectively awarded to those who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service.

Two-thirds were from Hawaii, while the remainder were from mainland states, including California, Oregon and Washington.
