Quake rocks eastern Japan, no tsunami warning issued

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Japan on Sunday, 253 miles north of Tokyo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue any warnings, watches or advisories.

The quake hit at 10:32 a.m., Hawaii time, 17 miles southeast of Ofunato, Japan, 25 miles south of Kamaishi, Japan, and 36 miles south of Tono, Japan.

The epicenter was at a depth of 19.8 miles.
