Man escapes serious injury as fire destroys Ewa Beach house

A 52-year-old Ewa man escaped serious injury as fire destroyed his one-story home on Friday afternoon.

The fire was first reported at 12:38 p.m. Honolulu Fire Department personnel arrived at the Pohakupuna Road residence within 10 minutes only to find the structure fully engulfed in flames.

The lone occupant of the house was able to escape on his own but suffered non-life-threatening burns to his arms. He was treated on scene by paramedics before being transported to an area hospital.

Firefighter brought the fire under control by 1:19 p.m.

A total of 30 firefighters from eight companies responded to the fire.

Damage estimates are not yet available but the house is being considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A structure behind the home was also damaged.

Police closed Pohakupuna Street between Makule Road and Fort Weaver Road while HFD operations were underway.
