Boy sustains bruises when car runs over his feet, flees scene

An 11-year-old boy sustained bruises on both of his feet when a car “ran over his feet” Wednesday while walking to school on South Beretania Street, his mother reports.

The car fled the scene and police have opened a hit-and-run case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Division at 723-3413.

The Washington Middle School sixth-grader described the car as a newer model red Volkswagen Beetle.

Katrina Wilson said her son was crossing Beretania mauka to makai in a marked crosswalk somewhere between Punahou and McCully streets at 7 a.m.

Wilson said the other cars had stopped for her son, so he thought it was safe, but the Volkswagen went flying past and its driver ignored other drivers who honked their horns.

He “walked on his heels” to school, where an ambulance was called, but he did not go to the hospital, Wilson said.
