A 41-year-old woman has been charged with theft, forgery and criminal property damage in connection with an attempt to secure a loan from a bank in the Hilo area.

Mitzi G.P. McArthur, who has no permanent address, was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Friday at a bank in the 200 block of Kamehameha Avenue on suspicion of second-degree identity theft after attempting to procure a loan under another individual’s identity, according to a Hawaii County Police Department report.

McArthur also damaged a door to the bank as she attempted to flee from responding patrol officers, according to the report.

After conferring with prosecutors, detectives charged McArthur with attempted second-degree theft, second-degree forgery and fourth-degree criminal property damage. Her bail was set at $4,250. She is scheduled to make her initial court appearance this afternoon.

Police are still investigating possible charges of second-degree identity theft and unauthorized possession of personal and confidential information. Those cases will be forwarded to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney upon completion.
