Ohio State held off Hawaii, 6-4, today in a baseball game that ended in controversy at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

Trailing 6-3, the Rainbow Warriors placed runners on second and third with two outs in ninth. Daylen Calicdan then singled to center, with Maaki Yamakazi and Tyler Best crossing the plate. But the umpires ruled that Best failed to touch third on his sprint from second base, signaling the end of the opener of this four-game series.

The ’Bows amassed 10 hits, including three in scoring two in the first inning, but were held to four hits after the third inning.

The ’Bows dropped to 9-12 after losing their fourth in a row.

Ohio State’s Nick Erwin singled home Dillon Dingler to break a 3-all tie in the fourth and the Buckeyes added two runs in the eighth to improve to 11-10.

Freshman right-hander Garrett Burhenn allowed three runs and a walk in seven innings.

UH’s Jeremy Wu-Yelland exited after four innings. He allowed six hits, four walks and four runs.
