Alaska Airlines will launch new flights from California to Kauai early next year, the airline announced Friday.

The carrier will start service between San Jose, Calif. and Lihue, Kauai on March 27, 2011 and between Oakland, Calif. and Lihue the following day.

Prices for the latest routes begin at $179 for a one-way ticket bought by July 9 for travel through May 17, 2011.

The new flights add to Alaska’s existing Hawaii service from San Jose and Oakland to Kahului, Maui and Kona on the Big Island. The carrier launched in March flights between Sacramento, Calif. and Kahului, Maui.

“The Hawaiian Islands are among the most popular leisure destinations that Alaska Airlines serves,” said Joe Sprague, Alaska’s vice president of marketing. “These new flights to the beautiful ‘Garden Isle’ of Kauai will be a great addition to Alaska’s Hawaii service for our Bay Area customers.”

Alaska will have more than 100 flights a week to the four major islands from the U.S. West Coast this winter.
