Wie was wonderful, if not overshadowed
Michelle Wie led from start to finish in winning the LPGA’s Canadian Women’s Open last week — only to be eclipsed by a captivating Little League team that fought hard and never quit but came up just short. Wie, who once could make front-page headlines simply by being in contention, surely could relate. But life for a prodigy comes with expectations far beyond a day in the sun and a shot at the title and Wie’s victory was a showcase effort. It’s too early to proclaim her arrival as the LPGA’s shining star, but a grown-up Wie looks like she might be ready and up to the challenge
Hurry up and wait, if you want to be a star
Convinced that you blew it on the casting call as a "Hawaii Five-0" extra? Don’t cry over spilt milk. Bone up on the strategies for success. They’re all over the Web, naturally. From one of the how-to tip sheets online:
» Bring several changes of clothes to the set. Maybe your days as a believable "bikini girl" are in the past, but bring a kaleidoscopic aloha shirt and — presto! — you can play a tourist.
» Don’t leap in front of cameras — not yet. Nobody likes a prima donna.
» Hurry up and wait. You need to show up early, but bring a book to read.
If the series hangs around for a while — and we all want that — you’ll get another chance.
