Live long and prosper in Hawaii, except for ……

Hawaii residents have the longest life expectancy of all states, according to the American Human Development Project by the New York-based Social Science Research Council.

The project determined that the average life expectancy in Hawaii is 81.5 years, while the shortest is Mississippi’s 74.8 years.

But hold on — that doesn’t mean all Hawaii residents can expect a lengthy retirement. Inexplicably, Asian-Americans’ nationwide average life expectancy is 87.3 years, but Asian-Americans living in Hawaii have the lowest, at 81.7 years. Likewise, Latinos living in the islands have the nation’s lowest average for that ethnic group, at 77.2 years.

Want to work for this man? If so, apply now

Gov.-elect Neil Abercrombie took a lot of heat during the campaign for what his opponents described as a lack of managerial experience.

But now that he’s elected, Abercrombie is looking like a one-man human resources department. He’s advertising for applicants to fill jobs in his administration.

The details (applications are being taken online at www.NewDayHawaii.org/apply): He’s looking for applicants at all levels, from clerical to leadership posts, in all departments. Review of the apps begins Monday.

It doesn’t say when A New Day in Hawaii begins for the new hires, but the boss starts work Dec. 6.
