WOODSIDE, Calif. >> A major San Francisco Bay area highway turned into a runway when a small plane needed to make an emergency landing.
The San Mateo County Times reports that the pilot of a Cessna 210 reported losing power to his engine Sunday evening, and he maneuvered the plane onto the slow lane of Interstate 280 in Woodside.
No one was hurt, but a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the plane’s left main gear tire did shatter the rear window of a Mercedes-Benz on its way down.
Fire officials say first responders arrived at the scene shortly after 7:15 p.m. to find the pilot pushing his disabled Cessna off the road. The California Highway Patrol reported no traffic backups.
The National Transportation Safety Board and CHP are investigating the incident.
