Emergency preparation workshop to be held today

Hawaii residents are being taught how to prepare for natural disasters at a free government workshop today.

The Honolulu Department of Emergency Management will hold a meeting at Kapolei High School today from 8:30 a.m. to noon about tsunami and hurricane risks, emergency supplies, evacuation kids, evacuation planning, home strengthening and hurricane and flood insurance.

The program includes experts from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, National Weather Service, University of Hawaii, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Land and Natural Resources, State National Flood Insurance Program and private companies.
