Firefighters rescued an injured hiker from the Pihea Trail in Kokee, Kauai, today.

About 1:30 p.m., the hiker, a 47-year-old woman from New York, was less than a mile into the trail when she slipped and dislocated her left knee.

Firefighters responded and carried the woman out on a stretcher.

The hiker decided to drive herself to the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital for further treatment, said Kauai County Fire Chief Robert Westerman in a news release.
