Police arrested a 21-year-old man after an alleged attack on a Prada store employee in Waikiki early this morning.

Police said the suspect entered the luxury retail store at 2174 Kalakaua Ave. and attacked a 49-year-old male employee for no apparent reason, with an unidentified dangerous instrument, at about 2:56 a.m.

Security officers and the victim’s co-workers intervened and disarmed the assailant, police said. The suspect fled the scene but officers, flagged down by store employees, located the suspect nearby and arrested him for second-degree assault, police said.

The victim had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

The suspect lives at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe Bay but police would not confirm whether or not he is a Marine.

The case is not believed to be related to a stabbing that occurred about 90 minutes later at a parking lot near Kuhio Avenue and Lewers Street.
