Facebook leads police to suspected bank robber
WINNEMUCCA, Nev. » Winnemucca police "like" Facebook after they used tips posted on the social media site to track down a suspect in a bank robbery.
Police Chief Eric Silva says they posted a security photo of the suspect on Facebook after an armed robber made off with $1,000 on Monday from the US Bank in Winnemucca about 160 miles east of Reno.
Silva told the Elko Daily Free Press that Facebook users provided information detectives needed to identify the suspect, including a tip that he often parked in a lot at Winnemucca City Hall.
Silva said officers canvassed the area and found 49-year-old Norman Alston in a vehicle parked in the lot between other cars.
Alston was arrested and charged with armed robbery. His bail has been set at $50,000.
