City and County crews worked to stop a sewage spill at Ala Moana Boulevard and Atkinson Drive Monday afternoon.

A massive sewage spill at Ala Moana Boulevard and Atkinson Drive has shut down most of Waikiki Beach from the Kuhio Beach groin to Point Panic.

The spill is estimated at more than 500,000 gallons of wastewater and storm runoff. Three manholes were overflowing on Atkinson Drive, according to the state Department of Health.

State health officials are advising the public to stay out of waters in the area.

City and County crews are on-site and are working to stop the discharge.
