Electrical arcing that may have been caused by heavy rains, caused a fire at the Fort Street Mall Friday night, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire at the Judd Building at 851 Fort Street Mall caused $21,000 damage to the structure and contents.

It broke out at about 8:51 p.m. in the basement of the five-story building. No one was in the building at the time.

Crews responding to the two-alarm fire saw smoke coming from the ground floor lobby.

Firefighters located the fire and contained it to the basement of the building.  It was extinguished at 9:42 p.m.
