LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. » A Georgia couple said Friday they have forgiven two sons accused of attacking them in what police believe was a plot to kill them.

Yvonne and Zachery Ervin spoke publicly for the first time with local news media outlets outside Gwinnett County Court. Their sons Christopher Ervin, 22, and Cameron Ervin, 17, face charges including aggravated assault and arson after the Sept. 5 attack in the family’s suburban Atlanta home.

Yvonne Ervin still had bruises on her face from the attack.

"Those were not our boys that did that to us," said Yvonne Ervin, while standing beside her husband. "We did not raise our boys that way."

She told a 911 dispatcher that her sons were trying to kill her. She said they had drugged her and her husband by putting Xanax in their drinks before the attack.

When officers arrived, they found a bloody scene inside the family’s home. Zachary Ervin emerged from the garage covered in blood, Gwinnett County police said.

"We understand there are consequences for what they did, they understand that, but we’re just praying that the world forgives them the same way that we forgive them," she said.

The brothers had also turned on the gas to the fireplace and lit a candle in a failed attempt to blow up the house, Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter has said.

The parents told police their sons also tried to strangle them, and Yvonne Ervin said that what she believed was a flammable liquid had been poured on her, WXIA reported.

In addition to the assault charges, both men are charged with first-degree arson, Gwinnett County Detention Center records show.
