Off the News: Colbert: Aloha means put on the mask

Writers for Stephen Colbert’s late-night show have correctly translated Hawaii’s message to the newly arriving tourists. On Thursday’s show, Colbert noted the state’s low COVID-19 counts and high levels of mask-wearing. The secret, he said, is that “aloha” means “hello” as well as “Put your *bleep*ing mask on.”

Perhaps Colbert should be producing the messaging to Hawaii visitors. The direct approach may be better than the soft-focus public service announcements we’ve been seeing on TV these days.
