Off the News: Frustration over travel restrictions

Tourism leaders on Monday vented to the House COVID-19 select committee about the added restriction on the pretravel testing program that went into effect today. And now Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami is seeking even tighter rules for inbound Garden Island travelers.

Kawakami wants all travelers to Kauai — including interislanders — to have negative test results in hand before boarding, and to get a second test upon arrival. So far, though, there is no capacity for additional tests — so it would seem Kauai has to abide the state’s pretravel testing program, or opt out to revert to mandatory 14-day quarantine.
